
Falcon Middles Dominate the Bulls

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - The Falcons swept Buffalo for the second time this season (30-18, 30-19, 33-31). The Falcons once again dominated the Bulls out hitting them with 50 kills good for a .370 hitting percentage compared to the Bulls 36 kills for a .073 hitting percentage. The Falcons' middle blockers Kendra Halm, MAC East Player of the Week, and Stephanie Swiger owned the net against the Bulls collectively coming up with half of the Falcons' kills.
The Bulls took the first lead of the night 5-3 over the Falcons. After a three point run the Falcons captured the lead, which they wouldn't let go of the rest of game one. With Swiger back at the serving line the Falcons strung together seven points to take a 15-7 lead over the Bulls. Four of the seven points came from one of the two middle blockers with a service ace from Swiger and three kills from Halm. The Falcons extended their lead to 11 points after a Maggie Karges service ace, which was part of a Falcon three point run. With the Falcons ahead 27-16 over the Bulls Halm terminated another kill to give the Falcons a 12 point lead, their biggest of the night. A kill from Swiger gave the Falcons game point, 29-17. The Bulls were able to shake off one Falcon game point but Swiger put away another kill winning game one 30-18.
The Falcons jumped out to an early lead in game two scoring 14 of the first 18 points. The Falcons put together three back-to-back runs. The first run was three points started after two consecutive kills from Meghan Mohr. The next Falcon run was five straight points with Mohr back at the service line followed by another three point run. With the Falcons up 16-7 the Bulls answered back with their own consecutive runs. First a three point run followed up with a four point run, which brought them within three of the Falcons, 17-18 until a kill from Halm stopped them. The Falcons continued to stay aggressive scoring points in a row with another three point run followed by a five run that gave the Falcons game point. The Falcons finished game two winning, 30-19. The Falcons completely owned the net in game two hitting a .379 with 15 kills and 5 blocks, allowing the Bulls nothing as they hit a .000 and had no blocks in game two.
The Falcons came out firing right away as Halm terminated the ball for a kill taking the first point of game three. The Falcons took an early 6-3 lead in game three after a four point run but the Bulls answered right back with three points narrowing the Falcon lead to one, 6-5. The Falcons once again extended their lead as they put together five points taking a 15-9 lead over the Bulls. With the Falcons up 18-13 the Bulls strung together four points cutting their deficit to one, 18-17. The Bulls kept the Falcons within striking distance the rest of game three. The Bulls put together three straight points to tie the game up 25-25 but a Sam Fish kill gave the Falcons a side out and the lead 26-25. The Falcons once again secured game point off of a kill from Swiger, 29-27. The Bulls weren't done yet and fought off two Falcon game points to tie the game up 29-29. Swiger put an end to the Bulls three point run with a kill tying the game up 30-30. The Falcons finally scored two points in a row to finish game three, 33-31.
The Falcons' offensive strike was led by their middle blockers who together recorded half of BG's 50 kills. Halm, MAC East Player of the Week, totaled 15 kills with only one error in 23 attempts hitting a .609 and recorded four blocks. Swiger also recorded double-digits on offense tallying 10 kills with only one error in 21 attempts hitting a .429 and four blocks.
Distributing the ball on offense for the Falcons were Fish and Mohr. Fish recorded 25 assists for the night and Mohr collected 12 assists.
The Falcon defensive stop had three players in double-digits. The Falcons were led by Chelsey Meek with 13 digs, followed by Madeline Means with 11 digs and Elizabeth Simon with 10 digs.
The Falcons will finish up the regular season as they travel to Akron, Ohio Saturday (Nov. 10) to take on the Zips for the second time this season. The match is set to start at 7:00 p.m.
Meek In The Race To Become Top BGSU Passer
Chelsey Meek has recorded 1,582 career digs only 15 digs away from breaking the BGSU record for career digs (1,596) set by Susie Norris.
Meek also broke the record for most digs in season when she recorded her 538th dig this season against Kent State (Nov. 3). Meek has shattered the record as she has recorded 587 digs this season with one more regular season match and post-season play still ahead of her.
