BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - Senior Kurt Wells led the Falcons to a road series win in their season opener at Middle Tennessee State. Wells batted .500 with two homeruns, nine RBI and a booming 1.143 slugging percentage over the weekend.
Wells started the weekend with a 2-for-5 game, including an RBI and run scored in the season opener.
Bowling Green's lead-off hitter wasted little time in game two, sending the third pitch of the game over the left field fence to hand the Falcons a 1-0 lead. Wells racked up three more extra-base hits (all doubles) in the contest, garnering a total of four RBI and three runs scored. Clinging onto a 12-10 lead in the top of the ninth, the Perrysburg, Ohio native provided a two-RBI double that proved to be the difference in the game as the Blue Raiders scored a pair of runs in the bottom of the ninth. To make things even more impressive, Wells made the jog from center field to the mound for the final out of the game and earned the save. He also stole a base.
Wells continued to shine in the Falcons 8-6 win on Sunday as well, clearing a set of loaded bases with a grand slam in the second inning. Wells thwarted an MTSU scoring threat in the seventh when he made a diving, full-extension snag on a line driving that was tailing away from him, which would have scored a run if not for Wells' web gem.
