BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - The Bowling Green State University baseball team was defeated in their second game of the Ball State Invitational Saturday afternoon. Evansville took a 14-2 victory over the Falcons.
Defensive follies tormented the Falcons in the contest as they allowed seven unearned runs after committing six errors. Senior Eric Lawson was flawless in the field, however, and also went 2-for-4 from the plate with a run scored.
After a Purple Ace run in the top of the first, Bowling Green responded with a run of their own in the home-half of the inning. Lawson led off the inning with a double into the right-center field gap. Senior Kurt Wells then advanced Lawson to third with a sacrifice bunt. Another senior, Jeff Telmanik, pushed Lawson across home plate for the RBI.
Evansville followed by scoring the next eight runs of the game with five runs in the third inning and three runs in the fifth frame.
Telmanik drew a walk to begin the sixth inning. The Anthony Wayne High School product later scored the Falcons second run on an RBI-single by Sophomore Chirs Gacom. Unfortunately, Evansville added five more runs in the next two innings for the 14-2 win.
Freshman Phil Hettlinger tossed a scoreless ninth inning for the Falcons.
Bowling Green finishes off the invitational with a 2:30 PM showdown against the host, Ball State on Sunday afternooon.
