BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - The Bowling Green State University baseball team dropped game one of a weekend series at Western Michigan, 3-1. Senior Tyler Johnson was burdened with the loss despite allowing just three runs in the Falcons first complete game of the season.
BGSU struck first with a run in the top of the first. Sophomore Marty Baird drove in Senior Kurt Wells from second base with an opposite field RBI-single. Wells reached second after drawing a walk, then swiping the second bag with his sixth stolen base on the year.
Western Michigan seized the lead in the bottom half of the inning with a pair of runs. Two runs were scored when WMU's Joe McDonald connected on a two-RBI single into left-center field.
Bowling Green's best opportunity to regain the lead came in sixth inning with a one-out, bases loaded situation. Unfortunately, the next to Falcon batters were struck out to end the scoring threat. BGSU stranded eight runners in total for the game.
