With the win, the Falcons improve to 10-5 overall and 2-1 in MAC action. For the first time in school history, BGSU has posted double-digit win totals in five consecutive seasons. UA drops to 9-8 overall and 0-4 in conference play.
The Falcons have won five of the last six matches and nine of the last 11 duals. In the all-time series, BGSU now holds a 24-2 advantage over the Zips, and the Falcons have won 15 consecutive duals since UA's last win over BG, in the 1992-93 season.
The Zips, as mentioned, took the early lead by capturing the doubles point. UA took the top-two flights, with all three doubles matches ending in identical 8-5 scores. At the second flight, UA's Jenna Larson and Lindsey Berry were victorious over Falcon junior Andrea Volle and freshman Katia Babina. Senior Ashley Jakupcin teamed up with freshman Samantha Kintzel for a third-flight victory over Laura Hemlepp and Aude Percherin to even the doubles play at one match apiece.
At the top flight, however, UA's Tanya Gombera and Amy Sherlock were able to outlast the BG duo of soph Kelsey Jakupcin and junior Jenna Nussbaum, giving the Zips the point. But, BG would rally in a big way, with straight-sets victories in all six singles flights.
Kelsey Jakupcin made quick work of Sherlock in a 6-1, 6-3 win at the third flight, while Kintzel lost seven total games in her flight-two victory (6-3, 6-4) over Larson.
Ashley Jakupcin lost a total of only four games in her victory over Gombera, winning by scores of 6-0 and 6-4. Sophomore Stefanie Menoff kept up her scorching singles play with a fifth-flight win over Alyssa Carlson, 6-3, 6-1.
Sophomore Libby Harrison dropped a total of just six games in her win over Hemlepp at the sixth flight (6-4, 6-2), while Nussbaum closed out the afternoon by toppling Berry at the fourth level (6-1, 7-5).
The Falcons will return home for a pair of matches next weekend. BGSU will take on Miami University on Friday (April 6) and Ball State University on Saturday (April 7), with both matches scheduled to begin at 1:00 p.m. at Keefe Courts on the BGSU campus.
