BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - The Bowling Green State University baseball team's four-game winning streak was snapped by a close 3-2 loss to Northeeastern. Bowling Green scored a run in the bottom of the ninth to begin the rally, but couldn't muster the third run to tie the game.
Sophomore Kevin Leady made an impressive five-inning relief appearance, allowing just one run while striking out seven Huskies.
Northeastern snuck in two runs right away in the top of the first inning. The score remained 2-0 until the fifth inning when Sophomore Brandon McFarland hit a solo shot over the fence in right-center field.
The Falcons were able to load the bases in the sixth inning, but a ground ball ended the scoring threat.
After the Huskies added a run in the eighth, BGSU needed two runs in the bottom of the ninth. With two men aboard, Sophomore Travis Owens placed a pitch into center field for an RBI-single, cutting the Falcon deficit to 3-2. However, another Falcon groundball ended the scoring threat once again.
Junior Nick Cantrell is the probable starter for Bowling Green Tuesday, March 6 at 1:00 PM when the Falcons take on the Georgtown Hoyas for the second time during the trip. BGSU captured a 5-0 victory over Georgetown two days ago when Senior Tyler Johnson threw six innings of shutout baseball.
