BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - The Bowling Green State University baseball team fell victim to a one-run loss for the second day in a row. Georgetown got revenge for the Falcons 5-0 win Saturday with a 2-1 win of their own on Tuesday. Junior Nick Cantrell (1-1) got the nod as starter for the Falcons and responded by allowing just one run in six innings pitched.
Georgetown score immediately in the top of the first inning with a walk and pair of singles. The Hoyas later added a second run in the seventh, taking advantage of a Falcon fielding error that allowed an unearned run to cross the plate.
Trailing 2-0 in the eighth, Seniors Josh Dietz and Kurt Wells each drew a walk to set fellow Senior Jeff Telmanik up with two runners aboard. Telmanik stepped into the box and delivered an RBI-single which also advanced Wells to third base. However, the next batter struck out swinging and the BGSU scoring chance was thwarted.
Bowling Green had another opportunity to tie or take the lead in the bottom of the ninth as well. Following a walk to the first batter, Sophomore Ryan Shay laid down a sacrifice bunt to push the runner into scoring position. A groundball then advanced Shay to third base, just 90 feet away from knotting the score at 2-2. Unfortunately, a deep fly ball to right field followed and the Falcon rally stalled a 2-1
BGSU will take Wednesday off before getting back to action Thursday with a double header against Valparaiso.
