BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - The Bowling Green State University baseball team won their third consecutive game with a 19-5 victory over IFPW Friday afternoon. BGSU (7-3) is 5-2 thus far during the spring break trip with one game remaining.
Bowling Green banged out 23 hits as 15 different Falcons recorded at least one hit. Senior Tyler Johnson continued his stellar play with a one-run five inning stint on the mound, improving to 2-0 in three starts.
The Brown and Orange racked up 12 runs in the first three innings and never looked back. A pair of Bowling Green, Ohio natives were the brightest stars of the game. Junior Andrew Foster knocked in four runs and scored two runs of his own on a 4-for-4 day while Sophomore Bryan Simon made his first start of the season and responded by recording three RBI on two hits and a run scored. Seven different Falcons picked up doubles on the day.
The explosive Falcon offense did not lose any fire power after Head Coach Danny Schmitz made a mass substituion in the fifth inning as the Brown and Orange tacked on four more runs in that inning.
A T.J. Blanton RBI-single, his second of the contest, in the top of the seventh inflated the BGSU run total to 17 runs. Then Sophomore Brian Hangbers hit a pinch-hit solo homerun in the top of the ninth, which was followed up by an RBI-double for Freshman Dennis Vaughn two batters later to create the 19-5 final score.
Freshmen Richie O'Brien and Corey Weiland each made their second career appearances and hurled a scoreless inning apiece. Freshman Derek Spencer increased his season batting average to .500 with two hits in three at-bats. Sophomore Chris Gacom was impressive as well, totaling three runs batted in.
BGSU finishes off spring break trip '07 Saturday morning with a 10:00 AM showdown with Northern Iowa.
