BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - It doesn't matter if it's a conference game or not, a win over arch-rival Toledo is always nice for the Bowling Green Falcons. Falcon baseball took a 6-2 win against UT Wednesday afternoon in a non-conference match up. Sophomore Marty Baird earned the win by allowing one run on three hits in 4.0 innings pitched while striking out two batters.
Runs were slim through the first five innings as BGSU held a 2-1 advantage. Freshmen Mark Galvin and David Borcherdt each contributed run-scoring hits in the early going.
Bowling Green opened things up in the bottom of the sixth, tagging Toledo reliever Steve Wenning for four runs. Each of the first four batters recorded singles to open the half-inning. After a sacrifice bunt by Senior Jeff Telmanik moved two runners into scoring position, Senior captain Eric Lawson stroked a flair into right field for two more Falcon scores.
Junior Nick Cantrell hurled two hitless innings before handing over the reigns to Freshman Richie O'Brien for the final three innings. UT managed to plate a run in the top of the ninth before Junior Andrew Foster gunned out a Toledo runner attempting to scurry from first to third on a base knock for the third and final out of the ball game.
The Brown and Orange continue the current homestand with a three-game MAC weekend series vs. Akron. First pitch is scheduled for 3 PM on Friday and 1 PM for Saturday and Sunday.
