Vallas Named MAC Scholar-Athlete of Week

CLEVELAND, Ohio (BGSUFalcons.com) - Bowling Green State University softball student-athlete Allison Vallas has been named the Mid-American Conference's Female Scholar-Athlete of the Week, the league office has announced. Vallas, a junior, is the second Falcon softball player to earn the honor in the last three weeks.

Vallas, a native of Perrysburg, Ohio (Perrysburg H.S.), earned the honor after hitting .500 as the Falcons were a perfect 4-0 last week. BGSU swept a Friday doubleheader from Miami before downing Ball State in single games on Saturday and Sunday.
On the week, Vallas had three doubles and a pair of homeruns for a slugging pct. of 1.400. She also led the Falcons with an on-base pct. of .615, as she drew a pair of walks.
Vallas was 2-for-4 with a double and a homer in the Miami twinbill, as BG picked up wins by scores of 2-1 and 4-3. On Saturday vs. BSU, the first baseman was 3-for-3 with a homer and a pair of doubles, driving in three runs in a 5-0 win. On Sunday, drew a walk and scored a run in a 7-3 victory over the Cardinals.
Vallas ended the weekend hitting .395 on the season (prior to the doubleheader at Detroit this week), and she is batting an eye-popping .483 in MAC action.
Vallas, a physical education teacher education major at BGSU, maintains a cumulative grade point average of 3.93.
The Falcons are 25-6 overall and 8-2 in the MAC entering this weekend's action. BGSU will play a Friday twinbill at Eastern Michigan before heading to Central Michigan for single games on Saturday and Sunday.
