CLEVELAND, Ohio - Freshman John Powers earned his first career Mid-American Conference Golfer of the Week today (Apr. 27) after carding a 226 (+13) to earn medalist honors at the UD Spring Invitational.
Powers was the first Falcon to capture a tournament title since Heath Ziglar won the Earl Yestingsmeier Invitational in 2004.
The Bowling Green, Ohio native opened the tournament with a 76-79 in 30-plus mph winds to sit in a tie for eight-place following the opening 36 holes.
In the final round he fired an even-par 71, one of only two rounds not over par among the 70 golfers. His 71 helped surpass eight golfers to claim a one-stroke tournament win, while helping the Orange and Brown to a second-place finish in the tournament.
Powers and the Falcons are currently competing in the Firestone Intercollegiate this weekend.
