BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - The Falcon offense couldn't get much going in the below-40 degree temperature at Warren Steller Field late Friday afternoon in a 8-0 loss to Central Michigan.
Central Michigan's Josh Collmenter dazzled the Falcons with a complete game shutout, allowing just three hits and striking out 12 batters in the process.
Bowilng Green had several scoring opportunities, but failed to capitalize. Senior Jeff Telmanik stroked a tailing line drive into right field for a single in the third inning. A Chippewa fielding then put two BGSU runners aboard. The next batter, Sophomore Chris Gacom, then sent a shot down the right field line that was, bobbled and then dropped by the CMU right fielder. Telmanik and Senior Kurt Wells raised around the bases for a pair of runs. However, the first base umpire ruled that the ball was snagged and controlled long enough to warrant a catch and an out, ending the inning.
Sophomore Marty Baird and Senior Mike Barnard also picked up singles in the contest. Barnard looked to have easily stolen second base following his single. But the Falcon batter began his walk back to the dugout too soon following a strikeout, gettting in the way of the catcher's throw out attempt, forcing the ump to call him for batter's interference. Barnard was thus called out on the play and the scoring opportunity was halted.
BGSU plays again Saturday afternoon against the Chips. First pitch is scheduled for 1 PM and the probable Falcon starter is Junior Nick Cantrell.
