BOWLING GREEN, Ohio -
Bowling Green will head to the 2007 Mid-American Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships this weekend. The three-day long event will happen Thursday, May 10 through Saturday, May 12.
The Falcons are coming off a very successful outdoor campaign. They currently have two NCAA Mid-East Regional Qualifiers (TaKarra Dunning, shot put; Jamie Roflow, steeplechase) and hope to see many more qualify this weekend.
There are several Falcons that appear in the top-eight in the conference heading in to the meet this weekend. Jamie Roflow is the lone Falcon to appear at the top of a list, leading the way in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, but there are several that are right behind her in their respective events. Roflow also ranks seventh in the 5,000-meter run with a time of 17:40.18. Roflow only ran the event once this season and hopes to make a large improvement to put herself in a favorable position come the day of the race. Senior Kim Settle is eagerly looking for a bid to the NCAA Regional meet in the steeplechase. She is currently ranked third in the MAC in the steeple with a time of 10:51.04. She ran this time at the All-Ohio Championships where she finished second behind Roflow.
Junior Amanda Sefcik is ranked fifth in the long jump with a distance of 19-06.50. She jumped this personal-best at the Spartan Invitational earlier this season. This mark put her in second all-time here at BGSU.
Kara Butler is just shy of a top-eight slot in the 10,000-meter run in ninth place She ran the event at the All-Ohio Championships in a time of 39:12.89 where she finished fifth.
Jessica White also ranks third, in the 100-meters this time. She ran a time of 11.87 seconds at the All-Ohio Championships earlier this season. At this meet, she won the event for the second straight year.
The throwers appear several times on the tops of the conference list. Lauren Bryant currently ranks fifth in the discus throw. She threw 154-10 at the Gina Relays and placed second. Liz Honegger, the 2004 MAC Discus Champion just missed out and ranks ninth. She threw 148-07 last week at the Toledo Invitational to put her this far up the list.
Andi Bunko ranks fourth in the javelin with a throw of 141-02, which she did at the All-Ohio Championships a few weeks ago. She also claimed the victory that day. Kylie Korsnack also appears on the list in seventh place. She, too, threw it at the All-Ohio Championships with a career-best toss of 122-04.
In the shot put, TaKarra Dunning ranks third in the conference. She threw a mark of 50-02.75 at the All-Ohio Championships to claim the win.
With a small, but strong squad, the Falcons look to finish well at this year's conference championships. They were seventh last year and look to improve upon that.
Events begin Thursday with the heptathlon at 11:30 a.m. The women's hammer is set to begin at 1:00 p.m. and the pole vault at 2 p.m. The final event for Thursday for the Falcons will be the women's 10,000-meter's which is set to start at 7:45 p.m.
