BOWLING GREEN, Ohio (BGSUFalcons.com) - The Bowling Green State University men's soccer team is preparing for the 2007 season. Members of the Falcon squad reported Sunday (Aug. 12), with physicals and several meetings scheduled for the first day. Two-a-days began Monday morning (Aug. 13), with a fitness evaluation slated for 7:00 a.m. and the first practice of the season to follow.
"It's good to finally get going again," said Fred Thompson, who enters his fourth season has head coach of the Falcons. "Everyone is excited and ready to get started. Now, we roll up our sleeves and get to work."
Thompson and first-year assistant coach Ken White welcome back a total of 13 letterwinners, including seven starters, from last year's club. The Falcons have a total of 12 newcomers on the 26-man roster.
"We have a lot of good pieces," said Thompson. Now, like everyone else in the country, we need to put those pieces together as quickly as possible.
"I'm pleased with the freshman class, and I believe the returnees trained during the summer knowing they have something to prove. There will be good competition in all positions and I'm looking forward to having to make some tough decisions."
The Falcons will play two exhibition games, with the first less than a week away. BGSU will travel to face Cleveland State on Sunday (Aug. 19), for the first match of any kind by a Falcon team in 2007-08. BG will host Oakland on Aug. 24 in the other exhibition.
The regular season begins with a trip to Florida to face Florida International (Aug. 31) and Florida Atlantic (Sept. 2), and the home portion of the schedule commences Aug. 14, when the Brown and Orange will host the BGSU Invitational at Cochrane Field.
