BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - After 54 holes, the Bowling Green men's golf team took 2nd at the John Piper Intercollegiate. The Falcons saw three of their teammates finish in the top-10 for the tournament.
Leading the pack was sophomore Andrew Ladwig. His 1-over, 73 was good enough to net him third place overall at the tournament, a mere two strokes behind the winner EKU's Jesse Massie. This is Ladwig's second top-five finish in less than a week as he captured medalist honors at the Purdue Midwest Shootout.
Ladwig's 209 (68-68-73) is the second lowest 54-hole score in school history.
Trailing Ladwig by three shots was senior captain, Jace Walker. In his final day of play, Walker finished even-par on the day for a three day total of 212. Walker's score would sit him in fourth place for the tournament, joining Ladwig for his second top-five finish in less than a week.
Sophomore Matt Schneider finished out the tournament with a 3-over 75 (218). Schneider sunk 13 putts for par on the final day to finish tied for 10th place.
John Powers followed Schneider in the final day. Heading into the final round Powers sat even-par after 36-holes. Powers carded a final score of 224 (74, 70, 80). Also finishing out was Russell Goodwin, who finished today's round with a 75 for a three round total of 225.
The squad was once again joined by the rest of their teammates on the `B' team. Leading the team were sophomore Chad Walker and freshman Bryan Mitchell. The duo tied for 20th overall. Walker finished his final round by carding a 76 for a tournament score of 223.
Not to be outdone Mitchell fired a 77 on his final round to tie Walker. However, Mitchell's highlight of the day was when he recorded a hole-in-one on the eighth hole, a 179-yard par 3.
Trailing the pair by four strokes was senior Trevor Spathelf. Tuesday's 78 placed him in a tie for 34th (227). Sophomore Scott Blackburn was on Spathelf's tail finishing two strokes behind him for a three round total of 229.
Charles Seguin, a senior from Buckingham, Quebec carded a 78 on the final day. Seguin was able to bounce back from the 83 he shot in the second round of the tournament to finish with a total of 240.
The Falcons look to continue their strong play next Monday at the Earl Yestingmeier Invitational in Muncie, Ind. before heading to the Xavier Invitational on October 1st in Loveland, Ohio.
