Falcons Fall to Kent State, 3-1

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - The Falcons came into tonight's match 10-5 overall and 2-0 in the MAC, tied with Kent State and Ohio for the number one spot in the East Division. The Falcons didn't have enough to overcome the Golden Flashes, as they were defeated, 3-1 (25-30, 30-26, 24-30, 25-30).
The Falcons kept game one close with the Golden Flashes not having more than a three point lead until late in game one. The Golden Flashes ahead 25-21, put together a three point run to give them a 28-22 lead over the Falcons. The Golden Flashes sided out for game point, 29-22. The Falcons fought off three Golden Flashes' game points but were unable to come back losing, 25-30.
The Brown and Orange came out firing in game two, running five points off of the Golden Flashes early to take a 7-3 lead. The Falcons continued to attack the Golden Flashes extending their lead to 10 points, 17-7. The Golden Flashes answered back with an eight point run bringing them within two of the Falcons, 17-15. The Falcons didn't waver after the Golden Flashes run but pushed through to win game two, 30-26, off of a kill from Corey Domek assisted by Sam Fish. The Falcons' offense was the most productive in game two with 18 kills hitting a .267 and holding the Kent State to .106.
After coming back and winning game two the Falcons dropped the third and fourth game to the Golden Flashes losing 24-30 and 25-30. The Falcons kept both games close but weren't able to surpass the Golden Flashes.
Domek led the Falcons' offense with 21 kills hitting a .326 followed by Stephanie Swiger with 15 kills and seven blocks. Fish distributed the ball on offense for 48 assists. On defense Chelsey Meek led the Falcons with 23 digs. Maggie Karges picked up 18 digs and Elizabeth Simon had 13 digs.
The Falcons fall to 10-6 overall and 2-1 in the MAC, ending their six match winning streak and look to bounce back tomorrow night in Athens, Ohio against #17 Ohio at 6:30 p.m. Ohio also lost their first MAC match of the season tonight (Sept. 28) against Miami, 3-1.
Falcons vs. Bobcats Matchup
The Bobcats are currently 10-4 overall and tied for second in the MAC East at 2-1 with BGSU and Miami.
Both the Falcons and the Bobcats lose their first MAC match of the season tonight.
The Falcons lead the Bobcats 40-19 in the all-time series and in the matches played on the Bobcats home court, 14-10. The Falcons will be looking to give the Bobcats some pay back after their three meetings last season. The last time the two teams met was for the MAC Tournament Championship, where the Falcons fell to the Bobcats in three (19-30, 25-30, 21-30).
