CLEVELAND, Ohio (BGSUFalcons.com) - Bowling Green State University freshman Ashley Fischer has been named Mid-American Conference Women's Cross Country Runner of the Week, as announced by the league office on Tuesday morning (Sept. 4).
Fischer earned her first collegiate victory in her first collegiate race, leading the Falcons to a 25 to 31 win over the University of Toledo. The Fremont, Ohio (Ross H.S.) native ran the 5k event on the BGSU campus in 18:22, as she came in 24 seconds ahead of sophomore teammate Carly Bates.
Fischer's win gave the orange and brown another top finish in the Toledo Dual meet, as senior Jamie Roflow had won the event three-straight years.
On the men's side, Miami University's Pat Sovacool took home the MAC Men's Runner of the Week. Sovacool set a meet record time of 15:02 at the Dayton Flyer 5k challenge.
The Falcons will next return to action on Friday, Sept. 15 when they host the 21st annual Mel Brodt Invitational.
