INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - The Bowling Green State University tennis team opened the dual-match portion of the schedule on a successful note, posting a 5-2 road win over Butler University Sunday (Jan. 20).
BGSU is now a perfect 12-0 all-time in dual matches vs. the Bulldogs.
The Falcons took the doubles point as the duo of senior co-captains Jenna Nussbaum and Andrea Volle won an 8-4 decision at the second flight, and junior Kelsey Jakupcin teamed with freshman Christine Chiricosta to clinch the point with a 9-7 win at the top flight. Jakupcin and Chiricosta rallied from a 7-6 deficit. That duo is now a perfect 3-0 in doubles play this year.
In singles action, Jakupcin, sophomores Katia Babina and Samantha Kintzel and junior Stefanie Menoff all won their matches to give BGSU the victory.
Jakupcin's win came in her first career appearance at the number-one singles flight in a dual match. Kintzel's victory gives her a team-leading 18 overall wins this year to date. Chiricosta (17) and Menoff (16) are close behind, and all eight members of the Falcons have double-digit victory totals.
The Falcons now return home for the next six matches, beginning with a Saturday (Jan. 26) dual vs. Youngstown State University.
