The Falcons are 1-0 on the young dual-match season, after a 5-2 win at Butler on Sunday (Jan. 20). The win gave the Brown and Orange a perfect 12-0 record in dual matches vs. the Bulldogs through the years.
Junior Kelsey Jakupcin won at the top singles and doubles flights vs. Butler, teaming with freshman Christine Chiricosta for a come-from-behind 9-7 win that clinched the doubles point. For her efforts, Jakupcin was named the Mid-American Conference Player of the Week on Wednesday (Jan. 23).
Junior Stefanie Menoff and sophomores Katia Babina and Samantha Kintzel also won their singles matches at Butler, while the doubles team of seniors Jenna Nussbaum and Andrea Volle was victorious as well.
All eight members of the 2007-08 Falcons have posted double-digit victory totals this season to date.
Youngstown State is 0-1 on the season, after a 6-1 loss to Xavier in the Penguins' dual-match opener last weekend (Jan. 19). The Falcons have seen YSU once this year already, as the Penguins took part in the season-opening BGSU Invitational (Sept. 15-16).
Wright State also brings a dual-match record of 0-1 into the weekend. The Raiders began the dual portion of the schedule Wednesday (Jan. 23), with a 7-0 loss to Ball State.
The Falcons met both YSU and WSU last season, picking up 7-0 wins over the Penguins (Jan. 28, 2007) and Raiders (March 18, 2007). Each of those 2006-07 matches was played at Shadow Valley.
BGSU will be looking to continue impressive streaks of success in the all-time series with each team. The Falcons are a perfect 9-0 in dual matches vs. Youngstown State, and BG has met the Penguins in each of the last five seasons.
The Falcons are 18-0 all-time in dual matches with Wright State. The teams have met in each of the last six seasons.
