Chiricosta, Jakupcin Head to ITA Midwest Regionals

EAST LANSING, Mich. (BGSUFalcons.com) - Two members of the Bowling Green State University tennis team have qualified for this weekend's ITA Midwest Regional Championships. Senior Kelsey Jakupcin and sophomore Christine Chiricosta will represent the Falcons in both singles and doubles at the event, which will take place at the Michigan State Indoor Facility. The tournament will begin on Thursday (Oct. 23) and run through Tuesday (Oct. 28), with play beginning at 9:00 a.m. each day.
ITA Qualifying Draw in PDF Format
Jakupcin will represent head coach Penny Dean's team in the singles qualifying draw, which begins Thursday. The Falcon senior will take on Fadzai Mawisire of Southern Illinois in the first round.
Chiricosta has been placed in the singles main draw, which begins Saturday (Oct. 25). The Chiricosta/Jakupcin duo will also represent BGSU in the doubles draw, which starts on Friday (Oct. 26).
The ITA Midwest Regional consists of a singles qualifying draw, a singles main draw and a doubles main draw. The singles qualifying draw will be held on Thursday and Friday, with those representatives finishing in the top-eight of the qualifying singles draw proceeding on to the main draw, which starts Saturday.
In addition to the Falcons, other schools with representatives include Akron, Bradley, Butler, Chicago State, Cleveland State, DePaul, Detroit, Drake, Eastern Illinois, Eastern Michigan, Evansville, Illinois, Illinois-Chicago, Indiana State, Iowa, IPFW, Marquette, Miami, Michigan, host MSU, Minnesota, Northern Illinois, Northwestern, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Purdue, SIU, Toledo, Western Illinois, Western Michigan, Wisconsin, Xavier and Youngstown State.
