BOWLING GREEN, Ohio (BGSUFalcons.com) - Cal Bowers has been named General Manager of Falcon Sports Properties. The announcement was made by BGSU Assistant Vice President/Director of Athletics Greg Christopher, in conjunction with Learfield Sports. Bowers begins his duties at BGSU on Monday (Oct. 27).
"This is a tremendous opportunity for me to come back and work with the institution that I truly love," said Bowers. "BGSU was the springboard for me early in my career, and now I have the chance to help continue the success that our administration and our student-athletes have achieved thus far. I look forward to the challenge as well as the bright future ahead for Falcon Athletics!"
A 1996 graduate of BGSU, Bowers was a four-year letterwinner for the football Falcons, from 1992-95. An offensive lineman, he was a three-time selection to the Academic All-Mid-American Conference Team and a tri-captain of the 1995 team.
For the last 10 years, Bowers was a co-owner of Alliance Venture Mortgage, a company which he founded. Alliance Venture Mortgage recently merged with Wells Fargo Home Mortgage.
Bowers is also in his third season as the color analyst for Falcon football radio broadcasts, alongside play-by-play announcer Todd Walker.
"Cal has the perfect background for this position," said Christopher. "As a former student-athlete and a BGSU alum, he has a good knowledge of the University and the community. And, his sales background and experience in Northwest Ohio make him a terrific fit for this job."
Bowers earned his Masters degree in sports administration from Ohio University in 1997. He currently resides in Maumee with his wife, Jenny, and children, Claire (5) and Mason (2). The couple's third child is due in March of 2009.
Falcon Sports Properties, a property of Learfield Sports, is the multimedia rights holder for BGSU Athletics.
