BOWLING GREEN, Ohio (BGSUFalcons.com) - Bowling Green State University student-athlete Jacob Lawrence has been named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District IV University Division Men's Soccer Team, it was announced Thursday (Oct. 30). Lawrence, a junior, earns the honor for the first time in his career.

Lawrence, a native of Brandon, Miss. (St. Joseph's HS), has played in 14 matches this season, and is tied for the team scoring lead with eight points. He has four goals to pace the Falcons in that category, with a pair of game-winning goals.
Lawrence had his four goals in a three-game span, including a two-goal game at Central Arkansas (Sept. 13). In that game, a 2-1 win, he scored on a header late in regulation, then headed home another goal in overtime to give the Falcons the win and the UCA Tournament title. The latter goal was the first game-winning goal and the first 'Golden Goal' of his career.
In BG's next game, the home opener vs. IPFW (Sept. 19), Lawrence broke a scoreless tie with his goal at 80:33, in what proved to be a 2-0 win. Two days later, he scored another goal in a match vs. Saint Francis (Pa.). Those two matches were part of the Falcons' own BGSU Invitational.
Lawrence has been named to the all-tournament team in all three of BG's tourneys this year to date, earning MVP honors at the BGSU invite. He also has earned a MAC Player-of-the-Week and a MAC Scholar-Athlete-of-the-Week award this year.
Lawrence maintains a 3.90 cumulative grade point average as a psychology major.
The ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District University Division Team is made up of student-athletes from Division I schools in the states of Alabama, Kentucky, Michigan, Ohio and Tennessee. To be nominated, a student-athlete must hold at least sophomore status, be a starter or key reserve, and carry a cumulative GPA of 3.30 or higher. Team members are selected by a vote of members of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) within the district.
The Falcons of head coach Fred Thompson close the home portion of the 2008 schedule with a Saturday (Nov. 1) morning game vs. the University at Buffalo. That game will begin at 11:00 a.m. at Cochrane Field.
