CINCINNATI, Ohio (BGSUFalcons.com) - The Bowling Green State University tennis team remained undefeated with a dominant 7-0 victory over the University of Cincinnati Saturday evening (Feb. 23). The non-conference dual match was held at the Queen City Racquet and Fitness Club.
With the win, the Falcons improve to 8-0 on the season, while the Bearcats drop to 3-8 in dual-match play.
BGSU swept the three doubles matches, with no result closer than 8-4. The third-flight team of sophomores Katia Babina and Samantha Kintzel had the most lopsided result, blanking their Bearcat opponents, 8-0.
At the number-one flight, the duo of junior Kelsey Jakupcin and freshman Christine Chiricosta won an 8-3 outcome, while senior co-captains Jenna Nussbaum and Andrea Volle were victorious, 8-4, at the second level.
In singles action, BGSU again won every match, with five of the six matches requiring just the minimum two sets. Falcon competitors lost a total of just 14 games in the eight sets at flights three through six.
Jakupcin downed UC's Alizee Paradis at the top flight, running her record to 7-1 in dual matches, while Chiricosta battled past Jennifer Keiner at the second level, in the lone match to require a tiebreaker. Keiner won a narrow 7-6 first set, before Chiricosta came back for a 6-0 win in the second set. The BG freshman then captured the tiebreaker, 10-3, to win the match.
Babina won her third-flight match by identical 6-3 scores, while Kintzel dropped a total of just four games in her fourth-flight sweep.
Junior Stefanie Menoff lost only three games in her win over Valeriya Dandik at the fifth level, while Nussbaum dropped only one game in her defeat of Abigail Mayo at the sixth flight.
BGSU remains in the Queen City for a Sunday (Feb. 24) match, taking on Xavier University. XU enters Sunday with a 7-3 dual record on the year. That match is scheduled to begin at approximately 2:00 p.m. at Mercy Healthplex.
