NAPLES, Fla. - The inaugural Doyt Perry Florida Classic was held on Feb. 10-11, 2008 at the Vineyards Country Club in Naples Fla. The Falcon Greats Reception and Dinner, hosted by George '82 and Julie '82 Schmelzle, was attended by 115 people. Keynote speaker was former Falcon and College Football Hall of Fame coach Don Nehlen. The reception dinner was attended by many former Falcon letterwinners and former coaches including Don Purvis, Bill Mallory, Ron Blackledge, Brian Scanlan, Gary Haas, Jim Fisher and Fran Voll, to name just a few.
The event also unveiled the Preserving the Legacy mini-campaign to enhance Doyt Perry Stadium by displaying its history and in turn to recognize long-time facility and grounds supervisor Ken Schoeni by naming the Administrative Suite, in the new Sebo Athletic Center, in his honor.
The following day saw 48 golfers take to the links in a golf outing while former Falcon tennis players played a few sets on the Vineyards courts. Winners of the scramble were Dick Newlove, Paul Yon, David Perry and Bill Otley. A 19th hole reception sponsored by Doug Atkin' 92 former football player and owner of Optimization Consulting following golf where further socializing and reminscing took place.
