BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - Bowling Green State University senior Allison Vallas has become the third consecutive female Falcon student-athlete to earn the Mid-American Conference Scholar-Athlete of the Week award as announced by the league's front office. To date, Bowling Green has earned or shared every female SAW verdict in April and the Orange and Brown are also the only school to decorate three female student-athletes over three uninterrupted weeks during the 2007-08 academic year.
Vallas, who is also the reigning MAC East Softball Player of the Week, helped BGSU to their first home MAC sweep of the season as BGSU took games over Eastern and Central Michigan over the weekend. The Falcons are now 7-2 in the MAC and have won their last five league contests. At first base, Vallas recorded 30 putouts. From the plate, she had a team-high eight RBI's while also combining for five runs.
On Saturday, Vallas blasted a three run homer and connected on the single which drove in the winning run as BGSU beat CMU in extra innings. On the weekend, Vallas knocked three balls out of the park. She also became the sixth Falcon in program history to hit more than one HR in a single game. BGSU is 7-2 in league play this season as they near the half-way point of the conference schedule.
Yesterday, the Perrysburg, Ohio native, helped the Falcons to another pair of victories at the BGSU Softball Field as BG took the front and back ends of non-conference double-header action over the University of Detroit Mercy. BGSU is 9-19 on the season.
The MAC Scholar Athlete of the Week honor is presented to a MAC male and female student-athlete who has a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or better and performs well during that week's competition. The winners are selected by a group of the conference's faculty athletic representatives.
