Falcon Softball Celebrates Senior Achievements

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - Seniors Dawnjene DeLong, Emily Gouge and Allison Vallas went out in style with an extra inning, 2-1, victory over the Western Michigan Broncos in their last game in front of a home crowd at the BGSU Softball Field.
The trio has seen BGSU set consecutive program homerun records in 2006 and 2007 as well as tying the school record of 37 single season victories in 2006 and posting 30 plus wins in back-to-back seasons. Individually, the group also fills the BGSU record books in both single season and career categories.
DeLong a Hamilton, Ohio native and physical education major has been an anchor in the Falcons infield at short-stop throughout her career recording 284 career putouts and 290 career assists. As a junior she recorded a streak of 25 perfect fielding games after the season opener while playing in every inning and earned Second Team All-MAC honors. As a senior Dawnjene hit a perfect 3-for-3 in the season opener, a homer shy of a cycle and then went on to record 17 hits in the first 15 games of the season with at least one hit in the first 12 of the 15 games. She currently leads the Falcons in runs scored with 20 runs scored and stolen bases with 5 stole bases on the season. Dawnjene can be found in the top ten of the BGSU record books in nine different categories as she is tied for sixth in career runs scored with 92 career runs, tied for ninth in career home runs with 11 career homers and tied for 10th in career doubles with 27 career doubles.

Gouge a Vero Beach, Florida native and biology major has been a force on the mound for the Falcons in 95 career appearances. As a junior she posted the second best record for strikeouts per seven innings averaging 7.63 per seven innings. This season as a senior she has been a force to recon with on both sides of the plate. In the circle she has retired a team high 94 batters, including a career best striking out 15 batters against Northern Illinois. Emily has exploded in the batter's box as well smashing 18 hits this season including her first career double against Cornell at the Stetson Spring Classic. Emily can be found in the top ten of the BGSU pitching record books in nine different categories as she has struck out the fourth most batters with 375 career strikeouts, tied for fifth with 5 career saves and tied for sixth in career shutouts with 14 career shutouts.

As a four year starter, Vallas a Perrysburg, Ohio native and exercise science major has played in 194 games for the Orange and Brown starting 193 of them with time in the outfield as well as at first base. As a freshman she was named second team All-MAC, leading the team with 3 home runs and 34 RBIs. As a junior she hit 9 homers putting her name in the BGSU season record books with the third most homers in a season. As a junior she earned first team All-MAC honors and was named to the ESPN the Magazine All-District Team. As a senior she opened the season with an eight game hitting streak and currently leads the Falcons with a .341 batting average, 31 hits and 240 putouts. Allison recorded a career high two homers against Eastern Michigan becoming the sixth Falcon to record two homers in a single game. Allison can be found in the top ten of the BGSU record books in 14 different categories as she has driven in the second most RBIs with 120 career RBIs, the third most career home runs with 17 career homers, the fourth best career slugging percentage with a .498 career slugging percentage and the fifth best career batting average with a .316 career batting average.
The seniors have amassed 111 wins with a conference record of 52-25. As they continue their journey to the MAC tournament they look to become the fourth group of seniors to make the league tourney all four years.
