Falcons Leave Cincinnati With Third Place Finish

CINCINNATI,Ohio - The Bowling Green State University women's track and field team concluded their second outdoor meet of the season with the completion of the Oliver Nikoloff Invitational. The meet was held in Cincinnati and featured 19 teams from four different states. The University of Cincinnati won the event with a point total of 243. Ashland (105), BGSU (97), Findlay (55.50) and Cedarville (53) round out the top five performing teams. Kentucky (33.50), Eastern Kentucky (21), Indiana Tech (20), IPFW (19), Siena Heights (18), Indianapolis (17), Ohio Northern (13), Detroit Mercy (12), Case Western (11), Kentucky State (6), Morehead State (5), Northern Kentucky (4), Dayton (4) and Xavier (2) finished sixth through nineteenth. The Falcons had a total of 19 athletes score and were led by the experienced throwers.
TaKarra Dunning was the lone score for the Falcons in the shot put with her fourth place finish. Dunning had a throw of 13.74 meters (45-01.00 feet). In the discus throw the Falcons third, fourth and seventh place finishes earned the team 22 points. Senior Liz Honegger led the way for the Orange and Brown with a throw of 43.98 meters (144-03.00 feet). Lauren Bryant was close behind her teammate with a throw of 43.93 meters (144-01.00 feet). Whitney Hartman added four points to the Falcons total with her throw of 41.63 meters (136-07.00). Hartman and Bryant followed up their performances with top five finishes in the hammer throw. Bryant finished fourth with her toss of 51.52 meters (169-00.00), while Hartman finished fifth with a throw of 50.62 meters (166-01.00).
BGSU excelled in the 800 meter run, having three out of their five runners score a total of nine points. Lyndi Springer finished fourth in the event with a time of 2:16.86, just three seconds off the first place pace. Danielle Thornton finished sixth, while Heather Conger finished eighth. Thornton had a time of 2:18.36, while Conger ran a 2:18.67.
Other Top BGSU Performances:
Sarah Hooten contributed four points with her seventh place finish in the 100 meter dash.
Carly Bates finished first in the 1,500 meter run with a time of 4:41.74, which was almost a full second ahead of second place.
Kylie Korsnack earned three points for BGSU with her sixth place finish in the 3,000 meter run. Korsnack added four more points with her fifth place finish in the javelin throw with a distance of 33.57 meters (110-02.00 feet).
Senior Jamie Roflow finished third in the 5,000 meter run with a time of 17:16.80. Roflow was just under three seconds from a second place finish.
The 4x400 meter relay team comprised of Lyndi Springer, Hillary Hewit, Danielle Thornton and Heather Conger finished fourth in the event, running a 4:00.53.
Elizabeth Stone finished sixth in the high jump with a height of 1.60 meters (5-03.00 feet).
Sabrina Forstein finished in a tie for third place in the pole vault. Forstein's height of 3.55 meters (11-07.75 feet) earned the Falcons four points.
The BGSU 4x100 meter relay team comprised of Rachel Doughty, Brittani McNeal, Tiffany Dziak and Shantell Lewis earned six points with their third place finish in the event.
Next on the slate for the Falcons: The Orange and Brown will travel to Oxford, Ohio for the Miami Invite. Events are schedule to kick off Friday, May 11.
