Softball Leads Off Fall Ball With the FAST Charity Classic

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - Bowling Green State University softball head coach Shannon Salsburg and the Falcons will start their fall season this Saturday (Sept. 13) at the FAST Charity Classic. The Falcons are coming off of a 19-24 overall record, 14-5 MAC record and a third place finish at the Mid-American Conference Tournament in 2008.
The Falcons will play two games at Rolf Park in Maumee, Ohio on Saturday (Sept. 13). The Orange and Brown will match-up against arch-rival Toledo at 8:30 a.m. and Trine at 10:15 a.m. All Games will be on field A.
Salsburg's squad will consist of 11 returnees, including a NFCA Great Lakes All-Region selection, an Academic All-American, two All-MAC players and 10 letter winners, and five newcomers.
The lone senior for the Falcons is Hayley Wiemer, a three-time All-MAC player, two-time NFCA Great Lake All-Region selection and an Academic All-American. The junior class will consist of Susan Sontag and Carly Riepenhoff. The Falcons will also be returning eight sophomores, Katelynn Boso, a member of the 2008 All-MAC freshmen squad, Lindsay Arney, Haleigh Bielstein, Melissa Bott, Missy Bowman, Rachel Delp, Zada Lines and Lauren Rockich.
The five new faces on the Falcon squad are Karmen Coffey, Lacey Elliott, Rachel Proehl, Natalie Wellman and Melissa West.
Assistant coach Lani Southwell will be starting her second season with the Falcons while assistant coach Janice Savage begins her first season with the Orange and Brown.
