
Falcons Soar Past Owls, 3-0

MILWAUKEE, Wisconsin - The Bowling Green State University volleyball team won their fifth straight match after sweeping the Temple Owls, 3-0 (25-20, 25-15, 25-27) at the Marquette Challenge this morning (Sept. 13). The Falcons recorded their second victory over the Owls this season after defeating them at the Temple Invitational last weekend (Sept. 6).
The first set started back and forth battle until the Owls put together a six-point run to take a 10-6 lead over the Falcons. BG answered back with a seven point run to regain the lead 15-12. The Owls would not regain the lead the rest of the first set. Temple put together another four-point run to tie the set up 19-19 but a kill from Kendra Halm ended the Owls run. The Falcons were then able to score six of the last seven points of the first set winning, 25-20. The Falcons held the Owls to a mere eight kills and a zero hitting percentage in the first set.
The Falcons continued to get better and better as the match went on. The Falcons struck first in the second set with a solo block from Corey Domek. The Falcons then scored five straight unanswered points to take an 8-2 lead over the Owls. BG followed that run up with a three-point run to extend their lead to eight over Temple, 11-3. The Owls battled back to come within four of the Falcons, 13-9. However the Falcons continued to attack extending their lead. The Falcons posted back-to-back three-point runs to close out the second set, 25-15. The Falcons offense was even more efficient that in the first set posting a .444 hitting percentage, while the Owls were only able to hit a .231.
The Owls were able to strike first in the third set, however the Falcons came right back answering with a nine-point run, the biggest of the match, started by a kill from Shari Luther. The Falcon made everything happen during their nine-point run, which included seven kills and two double-blocks. With the Falcons ahead, 9-1 the Owls post four straight points to close the gap, however the Falcons were still able to score points in row maintaining their lead. The closest the Owls would come to the Falcons was six points. The Falcons won the third set, 25-17. Once again the Falcons dominated the net with 16 kills hitting an impressive .481.
The Falcon offense was led by seniors Halm and Meghan Mohr each terminating a match high 10 kills. Mohr recorded 10 kills with only one error in 16 attempts good for a .562 hitting percentage. Luther also posted a high efficiency for the Falcons posting seven kill with only one error in nine attempts good for a .667 hitting percentage against the Owls. Once again Sam Fish ran the offense for the Orange and Brown dishing out 27 assists, while Chelsey Meek led the defensive efforts with 15 digs.

The Falcons now undefeated in Milwaukee, Wisconsin (2-0), will finish up the Marquette Challenge later this evening (Sept. 13) against host Marquette, also undefeated in tournament (2-0), at 8:00 p.m. ET for the tournament title.
