CLEVELAND, Ohio (BGSUFalcons.com) - Bowling Green State University junior Jacob Lawrence has been named the Mid-American Conference Men's Soccer Player of the Week, the league office announced Monday morning (Sept. 15). Lawrence earns the honor for the first time in his Falcon career.
Lawrence, a native of Brandon, Miss. (St. Joseph's HS), was named to the all-tournament team as the Falcons posted a pair of come-from-behind victories to win the UCA Tournament title. BGSU downed Centenary, 3-2, and host Central Arkansas, 2-1, to capture the crown.
Lawrence scored both Falcon goals vs. UCA on a pair of headers, with the latter goal coming in the second overtime. The two goals matched his career total heading into the weekend, and the OT goal was the first game-winner and the first 'Golden Goal' of his Falcon tenure.
The Falcons posted a 2-0-0 record in an in-season tournament for the first time in over nine years (since September of 1999). BGSU is 2-3-0 on the season, heading into this weekend's home opener.
The Brown and Orange will open the home portion of the schedule Friday (Sept. 19), with a 2:00 p.m. match against IPFW. BGSU will return to the Cochrane Field pitch, facing Saint Francis (Pa.) on Sunday (Sept. 21) in a 1:00 p.m. start.
