Kent State Upends Falcons In Three Sets

Kent, Ohio – The Bowling Green volleyball team gave up six aces and was outdug 43-36 as Kent State defeated the Falcons 25-18, 25-21, 25-20 Saturday night in Mid-American Conference action.
The match was also worth a point to Kent State in the Centennial Cup between the two Universities, tying the season-long competition at 1-1. For each contest between the two schools in each sport throughout the year, the winning team will earn a point for their school. BGSU had taken the first point of the series earlier in the day with a 36-35 football victory.
Kent State hit .374 on the evening, getting 17 kills from Arjola Prenga. Bowling Green had nine kills each from Kaitlin Jackson and Shari Luther. Jackson and Luther had no attack errors as Jackson hit .450 and Luther finished at .360. Setter Allison Kearney ended with a double-double, posting 25 assists and 11 digs to go with an ace and a block.
Bowling Green continued its trend of jumping out to early leads before struggling late. The Falcons led the opening set by as many as six points, building a 14-8 lead before eight consecutive Kent State points to take the lead for good. Bowling Green led the second set 10-6 and scored the first four points of the third set but was unable to hang onto those advantages.
Kent State improves to 10-10 overall and 3-3 in MAC play as Bowling Green falls to 7-13 overall and 0-6 in conference. The Falcons will host Cleveland State in a non-conference match Tuesday night at 7 p.m.
