DAY ONE RESULTS
In the early portion of the 2009-10 season, he Bowling Green State University women's golf team has had play canceled due to both rain and wind. Now, they have also been subject to stoppage of play due to darkness. After completing a first round that saw one Falcon very close to the top of the leaderboard, the Orange and Brown could not finish their second set of 18 holes before dark consumed the Fairlawn Country Club in Fairlawn, Ohio.
Second round play will resume on Tuesday, October 6th and will be completed before the start of the third and final round of the tournament.
As a team, the Falcons tied for 11th place with Cleveland State. Their first round score of 343 is nine shots ahead of 13th-place Walsh University and ten shots better than 14th place Robert Morris. Bowling Green is only two shots behind tenth-place Detroit (341).
Grand Valley State leads the tournament after the first round. Toledo, host school Akron, Ohio University, and Eastern Kentucky round out the top five.
Individually, freshman Susannah Grunden continues her excellent play of late. Grunden shot a team-low 77 in the first round and is tied for third place with five other participants. Grunden is only one shot behind Grand Valley's Sarah Hoffman, who shot 76 and is in second place by herself. Grunden is also only four shots behind tournament leader Kristen Hill (73) of tournament host Akron. The round was Grunden's second consecutive 77; she also posted that score in the final round of last weekend's Nittany Lion Invitational. She now has four sub-80 rounds out of six played this year.
Also participating for the Falcons are twin sisters Marisa (88) and Lauren Glew (89), as well as seniors Hannah Lambert (89) and Megan Gormley (91).
