BOISE, Idaho – The Roady's Humanitarian Bowl today announced that the Univestity of Idaho and Bowling Green State University football teams raised 2,220 pounds of beef donations in the Certified Angus Beef ® Bowl for Beef charity event for designated hometown and Boise-area charities.
The event, held today at Westy's Garden Lanes in Garden City, featured both teams' offensive and defensive squads facing off against each other. For each pin knocked down, two pounds of beef was donated to charities to be used in their community outreach efforts. The cumulative total of pins resulted in over 500 pounds of beef for each charity from each team.
“It was a blast bowling with my teamates and knowing that the proceeds would fund worthy charities,” said Max Komar, senior wide-receiver from the University of Idaho. Komar helped his team raise a combined total of 1,040 pounds of beef for two Idaho charities, the Moscow Food Bank in Moscow and Life's Kitchen in Boise.
“It was great to have fun while helping fight hunger along the way,” said Freddie Barnes, Bowling Green senior wide-receiver. Barnes and the Bowling Green squad raised a combined total of 1,180 pounds of beef for Martha's Kitchen in Bowling Green, Ohio and IdahoYouth Ranch in Boise. “I know what it's like to grow up hungry so doing something healthy for kids felt really good.”
The Bowl for Beef event has been sponsored by FSA Boise and the Certified Angus Beef ® brand since 2007. “We're delighted to be part of this worthwhile event that showcases the humanitarian spirit of these fine athletes while focusing on the nutritional needs of charities in surrounding communities,” said Diane Peacock, Marketing Manager at Certified Angus Beef LLC.
The Roady's Humanitarian Bowl will be held on Wednesday, Dec. 30 at 2:30 p.m. MST at Bronco Stadium and broadcast nationally on ESPN. The Roady's Humanitarian Bowl is the only bowl game in the United States that has humanity in its brand. The Bowl recognizes the positive impact teams, coaches and student-athletes have in their communities and their leadership roles in promoting humanitarian efforts.
