Falcons Win Third Straight By Rolling Fordham 67-46

Bronx, N.Y. - Bowling Green held Fordham scoreless over the final 5:32 of the first half to build a 34-18 halftime lead and the Falcons rolled to a 67-46 win over the Rams Saturday night. The contest was the first game for Fordham with Jared Grasso at the helm after releasing former coach Dereck Whittenburg from his contract Thursday.
Bowling Green scored the final 14 points of the first half to take a 34-18 halftime lead. The Falcons built the lead to as many as 26 in the second half.
In the first half, BG jumped out to an early lead but turnovers allowed Fordham to get back into it. The Rams' Danny Thompson knocked down a three-pointer with 5:32 to go in the first half to get Fordham within two at 20-18, but Bowling Green buckled down defensively. The Falcons scored the final 14 points of the half, eight from Dee Brown, as Bowling Green built a 34-18 lead at the break.
The Falcons continued to extend the lead in the second half, leading by as many as 26 on a couple of occasions before finally winning 67-46.
Brown ended with a team-high 14 points and had a career-high seven rebounds. Otis Polk came up one point shy of a double-double with nine points and 11 rebounds. Scott Thomas added 10 points, five rebounds, four assists, three steals and two blocked shots -- his third consecutive multi-block game. Danny McElroy came off the bench to make all four of his shots and finish with eight points, as did Erik Marschall. James Erger scored his first career points, knocking down a three-pointer late.
Fordham was led by freshman Chris Gaston, who had 21 points, 13 rebounds and five blocked shots.
Bowling Green held a 48-40 rebounding advantage but had a season-high 19 turnovers. The Falcons did shoot 51 percent from the half and held Fordham to 24 percent shooting, including 2-of-20 from three-point range.
Fordham falls to 1-5 on the season and Bowling Green wins its third consecutive game to move to 4-3 on the year. The win was the Falcons' first of the year on the road and it was the first of a five-game road stretch. Bowling Green will be back in New York in a week to play at Canisius Saturday.
