Falcons Fall to the Chippewas to Wrap-Up the MAC Schedule

MOUNT PLEASANT, Michigan - The Bowling Green State University gymnastics team wrapped up their Mid-American Conference schedule against Central Michigan Friday evening (Feb. 27). The Falcons weren't quite able to record the big scores like the last two meets, falling to the Chippewas 195.050-192.625.
"We definitely looked a little timid tonight but we are ready to start working on the minor things and are looking forward to the MAC Championships," stated head coach Kerrie Beach, who was excited to be back on the road. "I was very pleased by our bar line-up tonight."
The Falcons started out the meet on bars one of the strongest events for BG on the season. The bar line-up continued their strong performances as Jholeen Ponce started the team off receiving a score of 9.6. Megan Chronister and Kasey Fillmore followed sticking their landings with scores of 9.55 and 9.75 respectively. Amber Brewer continued her streak of great performances coming in fourth place with a career high 9.8. Finishing off the first rotation for the Falcons was Breanne Guy with a second place score of 9.825, matching her career high set earlier this season against Western Michigan.
The Orange and Brown moved onto the vault for the second rotation where the Falcons seemed to have a little trouble. Senior Jenna Wirtanen landed in fourth place with a 9.7. Not far behind her was Andrea Kinzer who tied for seventh scoring a 9.6 and Queenita Gamble with a 9.575. The remaining vault scores included Guy with a 9.5 and Morgan Balzer and Lexi Psichopaidas both with a 9.475.
In the third rotation, the Falcons competed on the floor. First up, scoring a 9.45 was Molly McKinnon. Right behind her was Wirtanen with a 9.425. Fillmore and Balzer tied for sixth and nailing their routines with a 9.7. Rounding out the floor competition was Gamble tumbling to a 9.675 and Guy with a small step out of bounds for a 9.6.
In the final event on the balance beam, there was a three way tie for first which put the top two BG finishers, Guy and Gamble, into a three way tie for fourth place with a score of 9.7. Following close behind were Katie Follett and Ponce scoring 9.675 and 9.6 respectively. Closing the beam scores were Fillmore's 9.475 and Chronister's 9.45.
Guy, who was named MAC Gymnast of the Week the last two consecutive weeks, took second in the all-around competition with a score of 38.625.
The conclusion of this meet wrapped up the MAC schedule for BG. The Falcons will return to action for a spring break trip as they first head to University of California - Davis to take on Sacramento State and New Hampshire (March 8) followed by a meet at Texas Women's University with Arkansas and Penn (March 13).
