LOUISVILLE KY. - Much like Friday's game, Louisville scored in its last three at-bats to come from behind and post a 8-5 win over Bowling Green Saturday afternoon at Jim Patterson Stadium.
Louisville scored 10 runs in its last two at-bats Friday to wipe out a 6-5 Falcon lead and in Saturday's contest the Cardinals scored six runs in their final three at-bats to erase a 5-3 Bowling Green lead.
Bowling Green took the early advantage with a three-run second inning on one hit and a Cardinal error.
Junior Dennis Vaughn led off the third with a single. When everybody was safe on a sacrifice attempt by junior Logan Meisler and sophomore Ryan Schlater worked Louisville starter Matt Lea for a walk the Falcons had the bases loaded with one out. Vaughn scored on a wild pitch with everybody else moving up a base. Then junior T.J. Blanton bunted home Meisler and Schlater scored on an error.
The Cardinals, now 3-3 on the season, came right back in their half of the second scoring a pair of unearned runs on a two-run double by junior Adam Duvall.
Louisville tied the game in their half of the sixth on a single from junior Andrew Clark, a wild pitch and two ground outs.
The Falcons scored two runs in the seventh to take a 5-3 advantage. Vaughn again led off with a single and advanced to second on a sacrifice. Junior David Borcherdt then stroked a run-scoring double. Freshman Jon Berti then ran for Borcherdt and stole third and came home on an error by the Louisville third baseman.
Louisville cut the deficit in half scoring a single run in their half of the seventh on a single by senior Alec Lowrey, a ground out, another single and a fielders choice.
In the Louisville eighth, they would put the game away with four runs on an RBI singles from sophomore Phil Wunderlich and freshman Ryan Wright and a two-run single by junior Jeff Arnold.
Sophomore junior college transfer Matt Malewitz made strong start for Bowling Green going five innings allowing just two hits and two unearned runs. He had three strikeouts and a like number of walks in his second start of the season.
Bowling Green, now 0-5 on the young season, got two hits from senior Ryan Shay and Vaughn, who also had two runs scored.
