Strong Falcon Performances Lead to Win over YSU but Loss to UB

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - The Falcons triumphed over the Youngstown State Penguins (BGSU: 223.5-YSU: 73.5), but came up just short against the University of Buffalo Bulls (BGSU: 145.5-UB: 153.5). The Falcons started and ended the meet strong, taking the top spot in both the 400-yard medley relay (3:54.40) and the 200-yard freestyle relay (136.59). Senior Alisha Yee and freshman Vicky Yu aided the Falcons by coming up with three first place finishes and two second place finishes between the two of them.
Throughout the course of the meet, the Orange and Brown racked up five first place finishes, nine second places, and seven third place finishes. Yee placed first in the 200-yard backstroke (2:06. 26), second in the 200-yard IM and was narrowly out touched by only seven-one hundredths of a second for first place by a Bull in the 100-yard backstroke. Yee also led off the winning 400-yard medley relay team.
Yu also added individual wins taking two first place finishes in both the 200-yard freestyle (1:56.29) and the 100-yard butterfly (57.60) races. Yu was also apart of the 400-yard medley relay that took first.
Sarah Burston and Carrie Enright also showed strength in individual races as they each took a first place; Burston in the 200-yard butterfly and Enright the 100-yard freestyle. Burston also added a second place finish to the Falcons efforts finish in the 100-yard butterfly.
The 50-yard freestyle was, as always, a tight race. BGSU took four of the top five places, each finishing under .25 seconds: Meg Richardson in second (24.66), Enright in third (24.71), Sarah Reinink in fourth (24.82) and Frankie Houck in fifth (24.99). Richardson was out touched by less than two-tenths of a second for first place.
Also adding to the Falcons efforts was Megan Bomicino (third in the 100-yard freestyle), Andrea Brown (third in the 200-yard freestyle), Richardson (third in the 100-yard breaststroke) and Katie Womack (third in the 200-yard breaststroke). BGSU divers added their own efforts to the meet. In the one-meter dive, Molly Wood took third with 225.25 points, Katherine Shannon in fourth (214.70) and Stephanie Saliga in seventh (131.10). In the three-meter dive, Wood finished in second with 263.35 points while Shannon and Saliga took fifth and sixth respectively.
The Falcons will finish off their MAC season tomorrow (Feb. 7) at 1:00 p.m. hosting the Akron Zips at Cooper Pool.
