Falcons Record Season High Score in Loss to Golden Flashes

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - Bowling Green State University gymnastics head coach Kerrie Beach and the Falcons fell to the Kent State Golden Flashes (Feb. 7) despite a season high team score of 192.600, nearly a point higher than their previous season best. The Falcons also recorded six top-three individual finishes against the Mid-American Conference pre-season favorite.
The Falcons started off the meet on the vault, which has been once of their strongest rotations of the season thus far and continued to be as the Orange and Brown posted two top-three finishes. Freshman Andrea Kinzer once again led the Falcons vaulting to a 9.775 and a second place finish. Not far behind her was junior Breanne Guy landing a 9.750 and third place finish. Rounding out the top performances on the vault for the Falcons was senior Jenna Wirtanen with a 9.625 and a seventh place finish.
The Falcons then moved onto the uneven bars where once against they took two of the top-three finishes. Kasey Fillmore and Amber Brewer both swung their way to a 9.775 tying for second place. Fillmore tied her career best as her 9.775 was her second consecutive of the season and her second consecutive second place finish on bars, while Brewer's 9.775 was a career best. Rounding out the top performances for BG were Megan Chronister with a career best 9.675 and Jholeen Ponce tying her season high with a 9.650 on bars.
The next rotation brought the Falcons to balance beam, which has been their toughest event as a team this season, however, the beam line-up stepped-up as it was the BG's highest scoring event as they recorded a season high 48.450 to the Golden Flashes 48.400, winning the beam event as a team. Each of the members of the bar line-up recorded a 9.475 or better. Leading the way for the Falcons was Guy posting a career high 9.825 tying for a first place finish. Right behind her were teammates Fillmore tying her career high of 9.750 tying for third place and Chronister with a season high 9.725 and fifth place finish.
The Falcons finished up the meet on the floor exercise where as a team they improved their overall score as well. Fillmore led the way tumbling to a 9.675. Right behind her were Wirtanen posting 9.650 and Guy scoring a 9.600.
Competing for the Falcons in the all-around was Guy recording her second best score of the season with a 38.500 for a second place finish.
The Falcons will continue their home stand as they host MAC opponent Western Michigan on Friday, Feb. 13 at 6:00 p.m.
