PERRYSBURG, Ohio (BGSUFalcons.com) - The Bowling Green State University tennis team was nearly flawless Sunday afternoon (March 15), making quick work of visiting IUPUI in a 7-0 win at the Perrysburg Tennis Center. The win improves the Falcons' record to 7-2 in dual-match play this season
In doubles action, head coach Penny Dean's squad won two matches by 8-0 scores. Juniors Katia Babina and Samantha Kintzel did not lose a game in their win at the top flight, and seniors Libby Harrison and Stefanie Menoff also won by shutout over their Jaguar foes at the second flight. BGSU won the third-flight doubles match by default.
In singles play, BGSU lost a total of only four games in 10 sets. No fewer than three Falcons won in 12-straight games, posting 6-0, 6-0 wins. That illustrious group included sophomore Christine Chiricosta at the top flight, Kintzel at flight three and Menoff at the fourth level.
At the second flight, senior Kelsey Jakupcin dropped only three total games in her win over Vanessa Carna. Harrison lost a total of just one game in her fifth-flight match, a win over Kristi Henderson. As in doubles play, the Falcons won the bottom singles flight by default.
The match pitted Dean against one of her former players. Cameron Benjamin, an Indianapolis native, is the head coach of the Jaguars. Benjamin earned four letters for Dean and the Falcons from 2001-05.
BGSU is now a perfect 7-0 on the year when fielding a complete six-player lineup, and the Falcons remain undefeated at the Perrysburg Tennis Center, with a 5-0 record at the team's new indoor home. BGSU's next action will be Friday (March 20), when the Falcons head to the Windy City to take on UIC. The next day (March 21) marks the Mid-American Conference opener, against Western Michigan in Kalamazoo.
