Wiemer Named MAC East Player of the Week

CLEVELAND, Ohio - Senior co-captain Hayley Wiemer, Sylvania, Ohio native was name Mid-American Conference East Division Player of the Week announced by the conference office this afternoon (March 17). This is Wiemer's second weekly MAC honor of the season in only four weeks of play, she was named MAC East Pitcher of the Week exactly one month ago (Feb. 17) after her opening weekend performance at the UCF-Early Bird Tournament. Wiemer has garnered MAC East Player of the Week one time previously in her career as a sophomore. She is also a four-time MAC Scholar Athlete of the Week and a four-time MAC East Pitcher of the Week.
Wiemer led the Falcon offense and tied for the fourth best batting average this weekend at the Judi Garman Classic (March 12-15) with a .500 batting average and 1.000 slugging percentage against some of the nations' top teams. Wiemer now on a four game hitting streak went 5-for-10 including a two-run homer, two doubles and four RBIs. She opened the weekend with a double just shy of the right field fence against Pacific (March 12). Wiemer topped that performance with a .667 batting average, 1.667 slugging percentage, two hits, three RBIs and one run scored against host Cal State Fullerton (March 13), including annihilating a two run homer that soared over the right center fence, which is said to be one of the furthest homers in right field at the Anderson Family Field. The long ball marked Wiemer's second of the season and 25th of her career only one shy of tying the BG career record and two shy of becoming the new all-timer career leader. Wiemer kept her hitting streak alive with a single against No. 25 Florida State and a double against No. 9 Oklahoma.
After her performance at the plate at the Judi Garman Classic Wiemer increased her batting average on the season 63 points and her slugging percentage 160 points. She now leads the Falcon offense with a .343 batting average, .600 slugging percentage, three doubles, two home runs and eight RBIs on the season thus far.
