Falcons to Compete in Boilermaker Invitational, Starting on Saturday

The Bowling Green State University men's golf team will compete at the Boilermaker Invitational, beginning on Saturday (Apr. 18-19). The 54-hole event will be the final tune-up prior to the MAC Championships (Apr. 30-May 2).
Competing with the Orange and Brown this week are: Cleveland State, Columbia, Eastern Michigan, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Iowa State, IUPUI, Loyola, Miami, Michigan State, Northern Illinois, Penn State, Purdue, Temple, Toledo, Wisconsin.
The Course
The Boilermaker Invitational will be on the Kampen Course of the Birck Boilermaker Golf Complex. The course will be a par-72, 7,220-yard course for Rounds one and two, and a par-72, 7,465-yard course for Round three.
A Few Notes on Men's Golf
John Powers and Matt Schneider rank in the top-10 in scoring average in the Mid-American Conference. Powers is seventh with a 73.79 average, while Schneider is eighth with a 73.89 average. Both Powers and Schneider are within reach of the school record for season average, held by current head coach Garry Winger (72.40) in 1994.
Freshmen Parker Hewit and Drew Preston rank 27th and 37th among the conference field. Hewit is averaging 75.63, while Preston is at 76.42. Hewit and Parker, both candidates for MAC Freshman of the Year honors, rank fifth and sixth among first-year players in the conference.
Last Time Out
The Bowling Green State University men's golf team fired a final round 316 en route to a 10th place finish at the UK Bluegrass Invitational, hosted by the University of Kentucky.
The host Wildcats won the 54-hole event with a score of 880, followed by Western Carolina (890), Central Florida (896), Ohio (903) and Austin Peay (903) to round out the top five.
Matt Schneider, who began the morning with a share of the tournament lead at 1-under par, carded a final round 76 for a 54-hole score of 219 (71-72-76). The junior finished the 90-player field in third-place.
Parker Hewit recorded his second straight 78 en route to a tie for 37th. The freshman opened with a 74-78 on day one, finishing the tournament with a score of 230.
Bowling Green, Ohio, native John Powers finished in the middle of the pack, carding a 235 (77-77-81). Powers finished in 51st.
Rounding out the Falcon competitors were Drew Preston (240, T-67th) and Scott Blackburn (242, T-73rd).
