Wiemer's Big Stick Earns Her Another MAC East POW

CLEVELAND, Ohio - Senior co-captain Hayley Wiemer, Sylvania, Ohio native was name Mid-American Conference East Division Player of the Week announced by the conference office this afternoon (April 28). This is Wiemer's third weekly MAC honor of the season as she was named MAC East Pitcher of the Week (Feb. 17) and MAC East Player of the Week (March 17). Wiemer has garnered MAC East Player of the Week two times previously in her career once this season and once as a sophomore. She is also a four-time MAC Scholar Athlete of the Week and a four-time MAC East Pitcher of the Week.
Wiemer led the Falcons to a 2-2 record in the MAC East this past weekend, including BG's upset of Kent State in an 8-0 shutout. Wiemer had an outstanding week at the plate posting a .417 clip and blasting a 1.000 slugging percentage with five hits, three of which were extra base hits, including two home runs, a double, six RBIs and three runs scored. Wiemer's two long balls put her in a league of her own in BG program history as they marked the 30th and 31st of her career, the first Falcon to record 30 homers in her career.
Wiemer and the Falcons started their last home weekend of MAC play with a 7-1 victory over Buffalo, where Wiemer went 2-for-4 with a 1.250 slugging percentage, including a three-run homer, her seventh of the season and the 30th of her career. Wiemer also reached another milestone in BG's victory as she recorded her 50th career win in the circle, only the fourth Falcon in program history to do so. Wiemer and the Falcons came right back the next day to upset Kent State in an 8-0 shutout, where she recorded another stellar performance going 2-for-3 with a double one RBI and one run scored, recording her second multiple hit game in as many days. Although Kent State was able to squeak by the Falcons in eight innings in game two of the series Wiemer had another outstanding performance at the plate with a 1.333 slugging percentage, including a two-run homer, her eighth of the season and 31st of her career.
Wiemer who holds the BG all-time home run record with 31 career long balls ranks third in the MAC all-time record books for homers. She also holds both the all-time BG and MAC records for career walks as she has been given first base on a base-on-balls 112 times in career, including four intentional base-on-balls in her career.
