Falcons Host Cardinals and RedHawks

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - Head coach Shannon Salsburg and the Bowling Green State University softball team will return home for their second home stand of the season. The Falcons will host Mid-American Conference West division leader, Ball State in a double-header on Friday (April 10) at 1:00 p.m. The Orange and Brown will then open MAC East division play as they take on Miami in a two game weekend series on Saturday (April 11) at 2:00 p.m. and Sunday (April 12) at 1:00 p.m.

Ball State • Cardinals • 4/10 • 1:00 p.m. & 3:00 p.m.
The Falcons will continue cross-over play this weekend as they host MAC West division leader, Ball State ... the Cardinals are currently 16-16 overall and 6-1 in the MAC, a top the West division and the conference ... the Cardinals are on a three game winning streak since dropping a double-header to Ohio State (April 1) ... in MAC action last weekend the Cardinals recently swept Buffalo (4-2, 5-2) and defeated Kent (1-0) ... the Falcons lead the Cardinals 47-27 in the all-time series and are on a 16 game winning streak against Ball State, winning 20 of the last 23 meetings ... the Falcons are undefeated against the Cardinals, 5-0 with Salsburg at the helm ... on their home field the Falcons are on a six game winning streak against the Cardinals, winning nine of the last 10 meetings in Bowling Green ... the last meeting between the two teams was at the 2008 MAC Tournament (May 8) where the Falcons shutout the Cardinals, 6-0 and out hit them 9-2, including four homers.
IN THE HOLE FOR THE FALCONS...

Salsburg and company will open MAC East division play as they host Miami in a two game weekend series ... the RedHawks are currently 17-16 overall and 4-4 in the MAC, after dropping a double-header to Kent State (5-4, 9-5) and splitting with Buffalo (10-2, 1-2) ... the Falcons lead the RedHawks 50-36 in the all-time series ... BG is on a two game winning streak at home against Miami ... the last meeting between the two teams was last season as they split a double-header with the Falcons winning game one 8-3 and the RedHawks taking game two 11-3.
THE "WEST" SIDE OF THE FIELD
A compass normally points North but for Falcon rookie Melissa West her compass points to the "West", whether she is in on the field or at the plate she ends up on the "West" side of the field (third base). West is not only the Falcon's third baseman but also leads the team and MAC in triples and ranks fifth in the nation averaging 0.20 triples per game and sixth in the nation with five triples on the season. Only 25 games into her collegiate career West has already climbed up the Falcon record books tied for fourth for triples in a season and is only two triples shy of making into the top-15 for career triples in program history.
FALCONS ANSWER THE BAT CALL
The Falcon softball team answered the "Bat Call" this past weekend as they recorded their fifth and sixth game of double-digit hits against Northern Illinois (April 4). Despite dropping both games the Falcons recorded 10 hits in game one and a season high 13 hits in game two. The Falcons out hit the Huskies 23-21, with six players recording a double-digit hit game in one of the two games.
WIEMER ADDS TO THE COUNT
Senior Hayley Wiemer continued to add to her career home run count and the BG all-time record as she crushed her 29th career homer and sixth of the season over the Huskies left field score board (April 4).
LEADERS OF THE MAC
The Falcons individually lead the MAC in five different statistical categories. The Orange and Brown can also found in the top-10 in the MAC nine times in the overall statistics and found in the top-10 18 times in conference only statistics. Individually freshman Melissa West leads the MAC overall (5, 0.20 per game) and in conference games (3, 0.50 per game) in triples. Senior Hayley Wiemer is the a top the MAC in overall slugging percentage (.683) and home runs in conference games (3, 0.50 per game). Junior Susan Sontag leads the MAC in on base percentage in conference games (.600).
"FRESH" BATS
Freshman Rachel Proehl and Melissa West have brought "fresh" bats to the Falcon line-up this season. The rookies have recorded a combined effort of 44 hits on the season, nearly one-third of the Falcon offense. Proehl leads the Falcons with 24 hits while West is tied for second on the team with 20.
SALSBURG AGAINST THE MAC
In two seasons at the helm of the Falcons head coach Shannon Salsburg leads seven of the 11 series against Mid-American Conference opponents, is tied with one and only trails- in three. Salsburg and the Falcons lead Akron (3-0), Ball State (5-0), Buffalo (2-0), Miami (4-1), Northern Illinois (4-3), Toledo (6-0) and Western Michigan (4-3) and are tied with Central Michigan (2-2). The three teams to lead the Salsburg and the Falcons are Eastern Michigan (2-4), Kent State (1-3) and Ohio (3-4).
FALCONS AGAINST THE MAC
The Falcons have dominated their MAC East division foes as they own all but one all-time series record. The Falcons lead Akron (41-20-1), Buffalo (14-3), Miami (50-36) and Ohio (50-36). The only team in the MAC East division to lead the Falcons is Kent State (41-49-1). In the MAC West division the Falcons lead four out of the six opponents in the all-time series. The Orange and Brown lead Ball State (47-27), Eastern Michigan (46-34), Northern Illinois (19-15) and arch-rival Toledo (56-33). The only two West teams to lead the Falcons are Central Michigan (16-63) and Western Michigan (28-42).
