Falcons Add Shelby Wilson, Patricia Holt; Both Hail from Texas
Bowling Green State Univrsity women's head coach Stephanie Young has announced the signing of two Texas student-athletes to National Letters of Intent. Shelby Wilson of Hebron High School (Carrollton, Texas) and Patricia Holt of Frisco High School (Frisco, Texas) will join Bowling Green for the 2011-12 season.
Wilson is a two-time captain for the Hawks of Hebron High. Currently in the middle of her senior season, Wilson enjoys a 74.5 scoring average, with the awards and tournament portion of the season to come in the spring.
In her career, Wilson has earned 17 victories, 58 top-five finishes and 74 top-ten finishes. She is ranked 14th in the state of Texas by Junior Golf Scoreboard and 399th overall for the 2011 class. The American Junior Golf Association ranks Wilson 322nd overall.
Wilson posted a 230 (80-74-76) at the 2009 USKids Teen World Championship and a 235 (79-80-76) at the AJGA Cleveland Open. In the Class 6-5A District Tournament in the 2008-09 season, she earned a 149 (71-78).
She carries a 3.7 grade point average (4.0 scale) and is a member of the American Junior Honor Society. She is the daughter of Gerard Wilson and Karen Schottelkotte.
About Wilson, Coach Young said, "Shelby has great length and accuracy, which is a powerful combination for a young junior golfer. She is an exciting player, but equally impressive in the classroom. Wilson not only knows how to compete, but win at the highest levels with a quiet, yet sure, confidence. Her skill set will allow for a seamless transition to college golf. I anticipate Shelby thriving in the team environment here at BGSU and look forward to watching her game elevate as a result. There is no doubt she will make an immediate impact for our team."
Holt is a two-time team captain and three-time Player of the Year and team Most Valuable Player for the Fightin' Raccoons of Frisco High.
Thus far in her senior season, Holt carries a 74.5 scoring average.
Among her tournament victories in high school are the 2010 state regional tournament, the Fall Kickoff tournament in 2009, and the Pre-District tournament in 2008.
According to GolfWeek, Holt is ranked 12th in the state of Texas and 299th overall in the world. Junior Golf Scoreboard ranks Holt 15th overall in the state.
As a member of the Texas Junior Golf Tour, Holt has wins at the 2009 Trophy Club Shootout, the 2009 Sugar Land CC Shootout, and the Oakmont CC DFW Christmas Preview. She is also a member of the American Junior Golf Association and has competed in national events such as the Bubba Conlee National Junior and the Callaway Junior World Championships.
Academically, Holt has a 4.9 grade point average (5.0 scale) and is 25th in a class of 312. She is a member of the National Honor Society and the Greater Dallas Youth Orchestra. She is the daughter of John and Priscilla Holt.
Wilson and Holt will join fellow Texas native Susy Grunden and five other returning players on the 2011-12 roster. They will replace team captains and seniors Lauren and Marisa Glew, who will both complete their tenure with the program next spring.
"I am thrilled to announce the members of our 2011 Class. Patricia Holt and Shelby Wilson are outstanding young women who will undoubtedly leave a mark on the BGSU golf program. The pair make up the highest ranked recruiting class for the team in the past 5 years. Together, they bring a wealth of competitive tournament experience and are first-class in every way," Coach Young said.
She added, "I am confident that Shelby and Patricia will thrive in the BG system and reach the next level with a program that embraces both team and individual. They have a deep desire to (help the team) push towards a higher level of play and to ultimately chase down a MAC Championship title. We are all excited to add both of these talented student-athletes to the BGSU Women's Golf Family."
The women's golf team is in the middle of their winter hiatus. The team will resume play in the 2010-11 season in March, when they travel to Arizona for the Rio Verde Invitational.
