Falcons Travel West; Tee Up Season at Rio Verde

The Bowling Green State University women's golf team will open its season this weekend as they will compete in the 2010 Rio Verde Invitational in Rio Verde, AZ, hosted by Western Michigan. The 54-hole event starts on Mar. 5.
The Field
Akron, Arkansas Little Rock, Ball State, Bowling Green, Bradley, Cincinnati, Eastern Michigan, Kansas, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri State, Northern Arizona, Ohio Penn State, Southern Illinois, Toledo and Xavier.

Tournament History
Originally known as the East/West Rio Verde Invitational, the event is in its seventh year. 2009 is the ?rst year with a tournament sponsor and is proud to have Durmed Pharmaceudicals on board. Western Michigan won the inaugural invitational in the spring of 2003 with a score of 614. The event moved from a 36-hole to a 54-hole format in 2005. Last year's team champion was Notre Dame (294-290-291=875) and the individual medalist was the Notre Dame's So-Hyun Park (72-70-70=212).
A Look at the Falcons
The Falcons are coming off a solid Fall campaign, finishing second at both the YSU Invitational (5 teams) and UD Invitational (10 teams).
The Orange and Brown are led by freshman Susy Grunden, who is averaging 79.20 strokes per round, recording three top-10 finishes and winning the individual crown at the Zippy Invitational with a 226 (77-73-76). Her 73 in the second round was the lowest score ever by a Falcon freshman. Her season average ranks 18th in the MAC (fifth among freshmen) and is second all-time in school history.
Lauren Glew is second on the team with a scoring average of 82.77. Her top performance came at the UD Invitational, where she finished ninth. She also shot a season-low 76 at the Zippy Invitational.
Hannah Lambert, the lone senior on this year's squad, is third on the team with an 83.87 average. During the Fall she finished third at the YSU Invitational (81) and ended the Fall season with a 13th place finish at Dayton (80-81) and 15th place finish at the All-Ohio Invite (87-83).
Marisa Glew, the twin sister of Lauren, averaged 86.27 through 11 rounds this Fall. Her top performance was a sixth-place finish at the YSU Invitational, shooting an 83 in a lone 18 holes of action.
Fifth and final Falcon competing this weekend is sophomore Paula DiFrancesco, who averaged 83.00 in two tournaments this Fall. She shot a season-low 79 at both the Duramed MAC Preview and UD Invitational.http://www.bgsufalcons.com/news/2009/6/15/FB_0615092839.aspx?path=football
