The Bowling Green State University women's golf team fell 9-3 to the Ohio Bobcats on Tuesday afternoon in the Longaberger Spring Challenge Cup. The 36-hole match-play event was held at Longaberger Golf Club in Nashport, Ohio.
The event featured a different scoring system than the normal golf tournament. In the morning round there were three matches (two Falcons versus two Bobcats). On the front nine it was alternate shot and the back nine is was a best ball format. Each nine holes were worth one point apiece, meaning six points were up for grabs in the opening 18 holes. The match would then conclude with six singles matches, one point for each match. After 36 holes, the team with the most points wins.
The Falcons took an early 2-1 lead after Hannah Lambert and Amy Ruthenberg defeated Sarah Tranelli and Meryl Weaver and BGSU's Paula DiFrancesco and Marisa Glew downed Collen Lienesch and Erin Cahill in the opening nine holes. Ohio's Megan Weaver and Jordan Fesh defeated Susy Grunden and Lauren Glew for their lone point.
In the best ball format Ohio walked away with all three points to spot the Bobcats a 4-2 lead after 18 holes.
