Mid-American Conference release
BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – Despite Bowling Green's season ending nearly a month ago, Falcons are still reeling in awards through the summer months. Today the Mid-American Conference offices announced the 2010 Academic All-MAC team. Among the 17 honorees were Bowling Green's own Jon Berti and #T.J. Blanton#.
The Academic All-MAC honor is for a student-athlete who has excelled in athletics and academics. To qualify, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 cumulative GPA and have participated in at least 50 percent of the contests for that particular sport.
Berti finished the spring semester with a cumulative grade-point-average of 3.529 in the field of business administration. The sophomore was named to the All-MAC First Team prior to the conference tournament and was named the MAC East Player of the Week on April 26.
Whether at the top of bottom of the Falcon order, Blanton lit up batters' boxes around the league, including a 21-game hit streak that gained national recognition and now stands as the second longest in BGSU history. He finished the season as the Falcons second-leading hitter, next to teammate Jon Berti. He finished the season with a .374 batting average and led the team in hits (64), home runs (15), runs batted in (54), among extra-base hits (32) among other offensive categories.
Blanton, with his 3.308 GPA, is majoring in Health Science. The senior is on pace to graduate in August and immediately will begin his pursuit toward a doctorate degree in Physical Therapy at the University of Toledo. He was named MAC Player of the Week on March 22, earned a spot on the All-MAC Second Team at season's end and was named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District Team for the second straight season.
