Susy Grunden, a member of the Bowling Green State University women's golf team, has qualified for the United States Women's Amateur Golf Championship, set to begin on Aug. 9 at Charlotte Country Club in Charlotte, North Carolina.
Grunden qualified after shooting the third lowest round (75) at River Oaks Country Club in Houston, Texas, about four hours south of her hometown of Krum, Texas. The qualifying round was held on July 19.
Up next for the sophomore-to-be is a trip to Charlotte, NC, for at least two rounds of action at the Charlotte Country Club. After 36 holes the field is cut to 64 players, which are then seeded to compete in a single-elimination match-play tournament.
Grunden, who just recently completed her freshman season with the Orange and Brown, finished 2009-10 with a 78.53 stroke average, the lowest single-season scoring average in school history. She led the Falcons in all 12 tournaments and had four top-10 finishes throughout the year, including medalist honors at the Zippy Invitational where she carded a 226 (77-73-76), earning Mid-American Conference Golfer of the Week honors.
