Bowling Green, Ohio - The Bowling Green State University Athletics Department teamed with Bowling Green's Upward Bound program to provide two camps this summer for high school students who would not typically have an opportunity to take part. BGSU held golf and tennis camps for the first time in 2010 that were led by women's golf coach Stephanie Young and tennis coach Penny Dean, along with student-athletes.
Approximately 35 students took part in the clinics, in which the coaches and student-athletes from the women's golf and tennis teams were on hand to explain the game, provide an overview of the rules, and provide lessons free of charge.
Bowling Green's Upward Bound serves high school students from low-income families and families in which neither parent holds a bachelors degree. The goal of Upward Bound is to increase the rate at which participants complete secondary education and enroll in and graduate from institutions of postsecondary education.
