Bowling Green State University's Susy Grunden shot a 79 (43-36) on day one of the United State Women's Amateur at Charlotte Country Club in Charlotte, N. Car. Grunden is currently tied for 120th.
After recording a birdie on the opening hole the Krum, Texas native made a double-bogey on the third and eighth hole with a tro of bogeys in between to open with a 43, but rallied with a 1-over 36 on the final nine holes, including playing the final four holes at 1-under par.
After 36 holes the 156-player field will be cut to 64, followed by a single elimination match play format.
Grunden tees off at 2 p.m. on Tuesday afternoon.
